210 Conversion

I found this old cab that was apparently a one-off built by an employee of EAW. That's my guess anyway, as I've never seen one, and it was found in the neighborhood of the old EAW shop. It's shown here with a couple blown 10s in it just for scale, etc- at this point I've got the two bottom holes stopped with plywood cut-outs, screwed in with gussets from the inside and Epoxy'd into place- so the bottom two holes are now effectively part of the baffle- shut, no holes. There are still two speaker holes in the angled part of the baffle; I'm thinking of putting ports in the bottom section, and maybe a compression tweeter... but layout can change.

Question: If I stick 2 10 in there vertically, will that relationship be affected much by the angle they'll be pointing away from each other at?

And: If I put them in horizontally, they'll both face upwards. For me that's great- but how much better will it be to do the vertical thing with that angled baffle pointing them in different directions?

I'm looking at speakers, including a pair of Fane VB-300s. I figure if I have too much space in there I can just stick some styrofoam panels into it (thanks Will33!).

I'd be using this cab solo, probably make it 4 ohms. Thoughts? Please tear this idea to pieces if you can- I need to be able to justify it. Thanks!

Okay I just remembered this evening that I already posted once about this several months ago. Haven't had any time to get to it, and earlier today thought to myself, "Hey- why don't I post about this on Talkbass? What a great idea!"... duh...

FWIW, Bill favors the cross-fire rather than the splay shown above, if you turn the cab 90 degrees.
Either splayed or cross-fired, you will get wider dispersion of your highs when turned 90 degrees.
I have no measurements of either configuration.

However, if your audience is directly in front of you, leaving it as-shown will let you hear the cab on stage a bit better.

One can debate endlessly the number of TB angels that can dance on the head of a pin.
That time is better spent just playing the cab.
Drop in some more drivers and go for it.

That's a lot of box to carry for a 210, though you certainly could if you wanted.

I might be inclined to load it with 4 if you're carrying the whole box anyway. Couple situations the angle may be of some advantage...

1. Stage monitoring in small places where you're backed up into your rig. Cab could carry the room and still provide good monitoring for the player.

2. Places where the stage or audience is very wide. Laying it on it's side may help there.


Other option is to saw it in half.

Due to the space taken out by the angle, it may be better suited drivers made for sealed boxes, but total wild-ass guess there.

It's a sealed cab as-is. I'm going to de-complicate my life and load it with 4 appropriate, inexpensive drivers and use it as a sealed box. All my plans are winnowing down to something quite simple lately! I think I'm going to just go ahead and be alright with that.
