$250.00 Bag End 410 worth buying?

I have an oppurtunity to buy a Bag End 410 cab for $250.00,problem is there is no output. If I buy it,. there is no returning it.I don't know what kind of repairs it might need.I think speakers are ok but not positive. My question, is the box alone worth $250.00? hopefully it wouldnt need much work but if it does I wonder how hard it would be to rewire it or how expensive it would be to have a qualified repair guy do it? any thoughts?:help:

You could put a fork in a toaster also, but that doesn't mean you would like the outcome? ;)

uuhh yeah ,ok? would you think the box is worth $250.00? wondering how well the cab is built and if it might be worth rewiring.as i said i have speakers if existing speakers are bad, i have a hunch they r good. this isnt a difficult question,I have no experience in wiring a cab but could probably figure it out.i haveno experience with bagend and wondering if it might be worth ressurecting this cab?

I have a gut feeling you might be pleasantly surprised if you take the steps to thoroughly check out the drivers. Rarely have I seen all four fail unless something catastrophic occurred. Trace and check all wires to and from each driver, and to the input jack. Could be a simple disconnection. Also, test to see if the voice coil is rubbing on any of them.

Is the empty cab worth $250? Well, if I had four quality speakers just gathering dust, and if I knew they would match up with the box's dimensions and tuning, I'd consider buying it. I would definitely try to get it cheaper though.
If purchasing four new drivers is the only way to make it operational, I'd say no! The net cost would probably be higher than buying a brand new cab with warranty.

If the store won't let you open it for inspection, Pass!!

Yes exactly. If they won't let you due some testing pass. The best speaker cab only sounds it's best with the speakers it was designed for. A non working speaker cab with unkown failures will be around a long time with a $250 price tag waiting for a sucker. If they won't let you properly check it out offer them $75 to haul it home. That way you may break even if you need new speakers from Bag End (they may have Eminence speakers but they will be built to Bag Ends specs. and only available from Bag End). :)
Sorry for the humor, but just putting a speaker you have laying around is not the answer. You would be better off getting the specs for those speakers and building your own box (for less than $250.)

could be as simple as a wiring or a jack problem. it is highly unlikely that all 4 drivers and the tweet are completely blown. it can happen (power surge) but it's still poretty darned rare IME. More likely is that the wiring is screwed somehow.

Frankly - much as I like Bag End - a perfect working Q10 isn't worth $100 to me - at 100 lbs plus - it would never leave my house. That my friend is a wonderful sounding dinosaur of a cab...

Red flag that I see is simply this: just because the cabinet was made by Bag End doesn't mean it is currently loaded with BE drivers. To get a professionally made cabinet would cost in excess of $250 I would think. So you should do the math. How much are BE drivers for that cabinet? Worst case would be $250 plus four new drivers. Gets you basically a brand new cabinet. Best case a simple broken wire.

I would make the guy an offer of what you think the cabinet is worth considering the worst case.

I think it's worth it...but then again, I'm a tinkerer. A speaker cabinet is such a simple thing to troubleshoot. Does it have the single coaxial speaker? That makes the cabinet worth it.

I like the BE 4x10, with its offset 10's. Just a solid design that is a bit different than all the standard 4x10's out there.

Ask the store for a 2 or 3 day trial. Who knows...they may be willing to let you take it home for a few days.
