250W loud enough for punk/alternative band?

UK pubs are cosy, no PA.

Band will probably be using a cheap vocal only setup which everyone will have to stay under.

On paper there is nothing wrong with the combo you have. I suspect it is far overrated. I played on the 115 version, underwhelming but probably sufficient for your venues.

If you put it up on a chair you'll get a better appreciation for the sound going out into the room. Don't be fooled by apparent loss of low end, it's actually the mids and highs reaching your ears in more accurate proportion than when they were aimed at your knees.

EDIT, missed the post about the crackling, indictates lack of available volume.

Yeah, that is true too. I think they must be guitarists with oversized rigs.

What about a combo with an extra cab? 1x15 added to rb7 2x10(if i can get it fixed)?

If rb7 is shot after taking it to tech am thinking the bg250 but might add a 2x10 cab to it if its not enough, think thatll do the job?

The tc combo should handle it just fine. It's a very loud combo. I've never had to push over 5 and a half on the master. Again, this is playing heavy music.

If you get the Laney fixed and preferably add matching 2x10 it should be enough for the venue, whether it's enough to keep up with guitards and bongo boy is another question.

Cheers everyone for all input, ill see whats up with the laney, if its alright ill save the penies for a beast of a rig when its needed and might just add a cab for now, if not ill check out the tc combo and also reasonably priced cabs and heads and see whats most suitable. Thanks

Look used, you can get a fair amount on the used market for not very much.

Picked up my SVT for £500, once saw a Marshall VBA400 and VBC412 go for £500, damn I wish I had the money at that point!

Peavey, Ashddown, Laney and Trace Elliot all go fairly cheap on the used market.

Yup, for many years. Crate BX100 (worst. amp. ever.) and after that a Yorkville 400B for probably 10 years. It worked. Wasn't awesome, but it worked.

I play guitar in a band, Bass player is using a BH250 and a Goliath Jr 2X10. Saturday nights gig he was having trouble hearing him self over 2 JCM900 half stacks. My master was on 2.5 Yes thats still pretty loud but Im sure theres plenty of guys that think they meed to have the master cranked to 5 or higher.

There is a recall on the BH not the BG. To me, the recall shows TC's commitment to their customers.

And he just got it back from them after the volume knob stopped working. Its a great sounding little amp though.

I use an SVT and an 810 in a 3 piece punk band and sometimes I have trouble hearing myself at gigs. It used to be worse in my old band with two guitarists using Marshall full stacks. I've been playing with our drummer for over 10 years and he's one of the loudest drummers I've heard around here. Buy bigger than you think you'll need.

Oh, whoops... Then no & probably won't. As I said, the TC vocal processors left such a bad taste in my mouth that I probably won't bother checking out anything else. Plus, they don't have tubes in them.

No. A 250w, one speaker combo is not enough power for your needs IME/IMO.

400-500W with a 210 should be safe.

YMMV, but there is a reason why almost all micro heads are 450-800w.

I think has a lot to do with class D amps sounding like absolute crap near their power delivery limit. Class D is the anti-tube as far as that goes.

i played for 500 people at a museum last saturday with hell-o our drone band, mesa d180, 2 x orange 115s, and my L2K, everybody kept telling me to turn down, however when i used one 115 or my 200 watt marshall ibs combo (115) everybody told me to turn up, so ime 115 and 200 watts good for reasonable volume, not good with super hard hitting drummer or effects laden guitars
