35" scale length needed for acoustic/electric bass. 7 string

Yes, its a cheap 7 string 35" acoustic/ electric bass guitar. I needed an inexpensive (music teacher at an elementary school) way to sing and accompany children songs ( upper strings) and also play bass lines on other tracks (lower strings). I use a pick on this bass because it provides a lot more definition for the chords and seems to project more. But I have never used a pick on my other basses. Also, this "7 string" is probably more like a 6 string with an extra string crammed in. Its tight but definitely usable.

TI flats are sold as 34" and 36". Maybe there is no option here as the 34" would not work? But if it did, would the 36" feel more loose? I have TIs on my upgright and it made such a crazy difference that I just have to believe that would be great for this strange need of mine.

7 String sets by Dean Markley and Ken Smith are roundwound. I tend to love everything about flats. Should I get over my flat love obsession and get the 7 string set as they are properly matched. (a problem I will probably have otherwise because its hard to find the right length)

Are flats tapered? If yes, is there such a thing as a tapered B flat? haha Bb. sorry.... I am a nerd.

** TI Acousticore??? but roundwound :( Just dont know. Wish I did before I bought my new strings... on 5/22/13!! but who is counting???

Check out www.bassstringsonline.com and send him an email, he'll fix you up with exactly what you need. Jason knows his stuff, and he loves TI strings. If they make a set that fits, he'll have it.

Thank you both.

I am thinking that Circle K is what is on my bass. ANd they don't sound bad. Just that I want to go a different, more flat direction.

I will send an email to bass strings online. That is already my 1st planned destination and its good that many others believe its the place to go.

You have a lot more options if you purchase the F string separately in addition to a six string set.

Plain steel is not really brand specific so you can use what ever is cheapest.

Ken Smith and MTD make wound high F .020w. Dean Markley makes a wound .022w
