35th Anniversary Stingray 5. Wow!

Undoubtedly super nice but I prefer the 30th. Not a big fan of spalted maple or the blocks. Just my two cents.
I agree. The 30th is special without being over the top.

I like it but to me it feels a tad odd that it is so very light compared to my 1988 StingRay 5. I would have preferred either the standard natrural wood or satin finish at the back of the neck instead of the glossy one, but i knew that when i bougt it so i am fine with that. I would love to add a serial switch for the pickups but have not decided on anything yet.
the Specials definitely have a different feel from the Pre Special Era StingRays. But that is exactly what I prefer about them, along with the sound of course. Most of the BFR's and Anniversary Editions have gloss necks. I too was leary at first. But they still have a certain smoothness about them. My non gloss neck Special does feel better.
No, it's definitely not 'generic'. I have one of the 25 double humbucker variants. When I rang and asked, they gave me a choice (with pictures) between four tops, several necks and ash bodies, quoting weights/cu.ft., and which the actual builders thought were the most resonant in 'the rough'. Of course it's spectacular, moderately light (well, 9 lbs exactly which isn't too bad for a double humbucker 5), and it absolutely sings. I've even put Mangan stainless flats on it and it's not 'woofy' at all. Like a piano. Fyi, it definitely does have an arm contour, although perhaps not 'quite' as pronounced as my old four string. Perfectly comfortable and balanced. Yes, it was expensive, but it's unique and most importantly, sounds spectacular. As close to custom made as you'll ever get from MM. The finishing and fret work in particular is world class. So, not generic at all. What don't I particularly like? Having lived with it for a year, I think I'd have been perfectly happy with a single pickup version - I almost never use the neck option, and that would have knocked a fair bit off the weight, but it's still by far my No.1 bass. If you get a chance, do at least play one before you slam it.
Stop being pathetic and feeling sorry for yourself. When I just looked, Reverb has 15 Stingrays available for under $2200, several of which were brand new. You can get a professional grade instrument for under $2K if you look.

Yeah. it is. it's a huge yawn for a very high price, same old, same old just with a flashy top.
I have both EBMM glossy and smooth satin neck for a big brand MusicMan really knows how to do specials and BFR basses.
Well it’s about the same as the current offering it’s lighter but it’s quite pleasant. Just a pound or 2 lighter. My BFR Fretless (in the picture behind the 35th anniversary) however is about 7.6 lbs, which is too light in my opinion. For reference I love my 12.5 lbs Fender Steve Harris as it feels great. While I don’t want all of my basses to be over 11lbs I don’t mind owning a few solid ones.
You have a nice EBMM collection. I can see the Joe Dart in the background . Any others hiding back there out of view ?It’s just awesome to just look at and enjoy the craftsmanship, not to mention it plays really well too almost wanna say better than the regular stingray but probably not
