3D Printed Parts (for Gretsch G2220)

Now that I have my Sire U5, I decided to play around with the G2220 I picked up. Probably going to use the Gretsch to learn how to make mods and upgrades. Figured I could start by making some custom accessories on my 3D printer. The truss rod cover and pick guard fit on the platen of my little printer. I think these add just a little color and contrast to what is a fairly plain-jane looking bass.

I like having projects when I am learning something new. I wanted to teach myself how to work with curves and splines in my CAD system. So, I traced the outline of the two pieces, got the curved edges adjusted, grabbed the "G" logo from Gretsch Drums, added a raised "G" on the truss rod cover, and a stenciled "G" on the pick guard.

Using my Prusa Mini with Mystic Brown and Viva LaBronze Prusa PLA filament I started with the truss rod cover.

Did the first one in brown on gold. Needed to make some dimensional adjustments, then printed gold on brown. I think it looks pretty good.

I might still print one with gold on brown. These parts only take 28 minutes to print.

My gripe with 3D printed parts is the filament pattern that's left on anything you print.
Many of the contoured surfaces do indeed have a texture to them. Something like the pick guard or truss cover have a flat surface. The painting lines are far less noticeable. Many of the printing software packages also have some smoothing algorithms to make the top surfaces much better. It will not be the same as cutting from a smooth acrylic sheet, but 3D printing does allow you to do many other things.

My apologies. I got distracted after your last question. Here are a couple pdfs. One of a drawing with dimensions. The second a pdf of the model.

It is possible the dimensions I used may be slightly different since I need to account for shrinkage of the filament material. I can't remember exactly how I ended up arriving at these. I would check to see if they match your bass since cutting material does not have the some dimensional stability concerns.
