Have a Broughton Calamity. Just got the Doom 2. Initial impressions:

The low pass filter on the Doom is very low and there is a frequency hole in the combined fuzz tone and clean tone. The Calamity has the low pass always on but the x-over is higher and sounds better blended in. So far, I'm not seeing the value of the Doom x-over.

The Doom is capable of much nicer low gain drive tones (as suggested in the instructions) and in this way is more versatile.

The Your vs You're setting is still new to me and I'm getting sorted. Especially as it relates to the mid and treble controls.

The Calamity has one knob for output volume. On the Doom, you have fiddle with two knobs to adjust the output from the device.

The Calamity can produce lovely unstable crunchy fuzz (that I love) that I haven't reproduced on the Doom yet.

Any Doom adjustment thoughts to guide me? The more I learn the Doom circuit and controls, the better tones I'm getting. These are just my initial impressions.

Try palm muting as well.

Throw an octave in front and an envelope filter afterwards. Try one on and the other off and then all of them together.

There is a high gain mod for the Doom that I have not tried. It is aimed at guitarists but may add a new texture for bass as well, I don’t know.

The enclosures are a lot lighter than I was expecting. I was thinking they were darker so I ordered a Hi-Viz as well.

After a few days with the Doom, I'm starting to get it...... Getting some very cool tones. Combinations with octaver and flanger get a great synth like thing that is new to me. Very nice.

Had to satisfy my curiosity and take a look just to see....

It's kinda nuts to me that there are still Doom 2s available three weeks after the drop. It feels like even the last couple batches still sold out in a matter of minutes, if even.

Is it weird that this phenomenon of 3Leaf pedals being "readily available" makes me feel a little uneasy, and maybe a little silly for setting calendar reminders and alarms to try and get in on previous drops? ha ha

I think this drop had some really fun colors but not to put on my board. Previous drops had similarly eye-catching colors, but certainly more mainstream than "Hi-Viz." Maybe others thought the same

If I had to pick one, it'd be Safety Orange.

This release and the last one alone, 666 (hehehe) D2's have been made available. That's a lot! Drops previous even to the latest two were around 100 IIRC (and there were several of them).

Not sure it's much more complicated than that, TBH. But I could definitely be wrong; sure wouldn't be the first time!

I think previous drops of 100 were in high demand because buyers knew they could resell, for a profit. But a drop of 333 units is a different psychology all together in my view. Are there really 333 bass players out there in the wild dreaming of a Doom? I suspect market demand is mostly satisfied and flippers are staying away due to the big inventory hitting the market. The Doom used market will probably get back to $300 once the drop inventory is sold. Thats my free analysis.

I like the new Doom2 finishes a lot more than my nickel dipped or whatever it was called. Not enough to buy a new one, but glad people can get them. Now we need a black friday sale!

LOL- theyre tryna sell ‘em for $425 NOW! …I think at least one entity had banks of phones and computers set up to buy. Thats the only way they sold out that quick. These things are cool, but not 100 people synchronized within a minute cool. No way. I could see 30, but not 100. Throw in all the other goofy behavior- i found it entertaining, but i don’t for a second believe there wasn’t mass chicanery taking place.

It's this. 100% this. There's no secret conspiracy here, folks, just supply catching up to demand.

300 units of the Doom 2 were released in 2023 and 677 units in 2024 (so far). From 2019 to 2022 there were 600 units made. So in the past 15 months the supply increased by 62.83% over the total available in the previous 4 years.* This is to Spencer's credit.


*it's slightly more complicated than this because the older and newer Doom 2s are somewhat different pedals so therefore some folks like myself will want to own both, but this is a relatively negligible detail compared to the production numbers.
