As soon as Iron Maiden added the third guitarist I lost interest.

Like it matters, Steve Harris could play louder and clearer than 300 guitarists.

To me, it does. I like the old school Iron Maiden. Dave Murray and Adrian Smith were fine enough. Janek is just one tone too many and he takes some of Adrian's leads and butchers them to shreads and then runs around like a goof and has to do those silly guitar flips around his back. Completly useless.

Reading the OP, id say ask her to buy some other gear, encourage her to practice writing music on her own. You say she's a good player, so she just needs to expand her relationship with her instrument. Writing music is the kind of thing that you won't get better at if you don't spend some time doing it.

I've listened to a lot of live Iron Maiden. Murray and Smith butcher their own leads quite frequently.

Also, I love many of the songs that Gers has a writing credit on. I think from a song-writing standpoint, he's definitely an asset to the band.

So in short, I completely disagree with you.


Also, Gers didn't come in as a 3rd guitarist... he was recruited when Smith left. He's been in the band for 20 years now. They only started having three guitarists when Smith rejoined.
