All bass heads are designed to run at more than one impedance. Solid state heads have a minimum impedance, and anything more than that is okay. Tube heads typically have separate output jacks for each impedance.
If you hook up an 8 ohm cab to a solid state head, it will operate at 8 ohms. And while the wattage will usually be lower than the 4 ohm output, it will still work just fine. The difference between 8 ohms and 4 ohms is only 3dB (all else equal), and 3dB is not very much.
As I mentioned in your other thread, don’t think in terms of Watts. Watts are mostly marketing. Think in terms of impedance and deciBels.
