4 string vs. 5 string

I started with 4 string, but moved on to 5 string after a few years. I think that's a good way to go so you can get used to the feel of the instrument first. Typically when people start learning they play closer to the head of the bass. As you learn to play in higher positions you'll find the 5 string more useful, but to start you'd probably be better off with a 4 string.
