4 strings only?

Who out there owns only 4-string basses?

I own only 4 strings just because I love 'em. I'm not docking 5+ stringers, they just aren't for me. I love the feel of a four.

So do any of you own only 4 bangers?

Yup, I'm in. I had a 5 once but didn't really need the extra 5 notes. Also the one I bought was a particularly crappy one. I might go back one day but for now I'm happy with the range and feel of 4 strings.

All of my basses are 4-strings. I have no intention of buying a 5er anytime soon. I tried one out the other day and remembered that I don't need to spend extra money for a thumb rest.

I have over 20 basses - all 4-string (mostly jazz) basses. I wouldn't completely rule out owning a 5, but I haven't found one yet that I've wanted to buy. Actually, I was given a 5-string once and gave it back after a few weeks of consideration!

Yessir. I've no need for a low B. Love my 4s. No hate for 5s, though. They make eye candy as alluring as any 4, so I don't complain

All my bases are 4 string. I strayed into the 5 and 6 strings in the early 90's then went back to 4 strings and realized they were more fun to play.

So - that's what I own.

All my basses are 4 stringers between the B and the C. And, yes, I routinely use all 6! It is a matter of artistic choice. I own 3 4's and love playing them as well!! I generally play my sixers....but my orientation is still and is always the 4 strings in the middle!!!

tried and tried to learn to play a 5 string, but old dogs... kept having to think too much instead of just enjoying the playing on auto pilot!!

I was thinking of making an 89 string bass, but I didn't have enough wood, so I had to settle for a 63 string bass. It rocks! I like to take it over to the nearest Guitar Center and sit in the bass section and slap and pop it all day long, hoping that I will impress someone. I still can't figure out why I never get asked to be in anyone's band.

I have 1 but im selling it, just not for me, Im a 4 player all the way which is funny because I was a guitarist for 20 years. they just dont feel right to me.

I've occasionally played some 5-stringers before, and a lot of them were very nice indeed, but they just don't quite have the same feel, even on the higher four strings. I guess I'm just a 4-string guy too. It's familiar, it's comfortable, it's just right.

I owned a 5 string for a while, but now, all 4's. One of them is tuned DGCF, and that covers me just fine.

Same here, with DGCF tuning I'm all set, no need to use a 5-string, at least in my case. Might be different if I had contemporary country&western gigs.
