400RB and speaker compatability

Hello Group.
My 1st post.
I have a 400RB original and want some input on the Ohm requirements. It says 200 watts at 4 Ohm or 125 watts at 8 Ohm. Now I am not good at this but does that mean two 8 ohm will equal the 4 ohm capacity..and will it only push 125 total with two 8 Ohm speakers connected? As I understand it one 4 Ohm speaker can get the unit to push 200 watts. I want to go 15'' on this baby but maybe some of you can tell me what you think are some of the best sounding cabs that are compatible with this amp and will unleash it's total volume abilities.

One 4 ohm cab=200 watts from the 400RB, two 8 ohm cabs= 4 ohms and 200 watts from the 400RB shared between two cabs. As far as cabs a 4 ohm 215, two 410's, one 4 ohm 810, two 8 ohm 212's, one 4 ohm 412, two 8ohm 215's.

Ok...still a little fuzzy.. What cab on the market will push the best volume and low end for this amp?

There is a huge number of good efficient cabs out there by many makers. Berg 215, old Mesa 215, one of my personal favorites G-K NEO 410 or 212. The best plan if you have a few or even one good music store is to take your amp head and bass and audition some cabs. Just remember if the cab says 800 watts you really don't care as you will be feeding it 200 watts. If the cab says 150 watts (at 4 ohms) then you have a problem. More speaker area the better to get volume (and low end generally).

I just read another recent thread...It appears I won't gain much volume with a 4 Ohm over an 8 Ohm.. I'll probably go the 8 Ohm and add extra 8 Ohm cab at some point to get more kick with the combined 4 Ohm load from both.
My head hurts...luckily not the amp head!

Good for you! (not the head hurting part) You will get more sound doubling speakers than doubling wattage!
