Mine is hella heavy, which is the biggest reason I rarely play it.

I don't remember if it has a serial number on it on the neck plate like yours. I might pull it out and look, but it's I little buried right now.

What did it sale for? I have a fretless, otherwise exactly like Mcgrueivey's, that I'm thinking of selling. Also I also saw the "cheetah" Tele-style bass on Ebay and almost bid on it, but I have too many axes already. Did you add a second p/u on it? I recall that it only had one when it was listed (recently) on Ebay.

On the Cheetah- I didn’t add the neck pickup, it was there when I bought it. Based on the route and the finish I believe it is original

Ok ...My first post on TB!
I am a original owner of a 48th st Custom Guitars 4 string J Bass. I bought this in December 1988 right off the wall for about 850 , i think . I had an instrument stolen ( in Boston at music school ) and was looking for a replacement before the next semester started. It was a passive instrument when i bought it ( 3 knobs) but a year later I sent it back to them to add a Bartolini TCT 2 band preamp ( why ?...i don't know. it was just the thing to do. lol) I have owned it its entire life and remains in my ( rather small) arsenal. Can I get a Membership #?...

Pretty much the same as mine, except mine has a rosewood fretboard and different bridge. And I think my neck pickup is closer to the neck.

If I'm not mistaken, the pair of guys who have been behind the Schecter Custom Shop for the last 25 years came from 48th St Custom Guitars.

My 48st Bass didn't have a Badass bridge like the one on eBay, I wonder what else has been replaced? Kinda pricey, too, seeing as there isn't really much market for this brand.

Yeah, I haven't played mine in years, but it's too nice to sell for the $100 it would probably bring.

Wow! I had a sunburst with a blocked maple board about 20 years ago, but didn't realize what I had at the time.

They're great. Just not worth any actual money in the used market, as far as I've ever seen.

I used to fog up the windows on 48th st. All those stores were cool but 48th and Rudy's were special, manny's was great too. I am a lefty so all I could do was look at all those beautiful right handed guitars and dream. Got my first real bass at 48th custom in 1994. I figured if most of the good basses are $1000 and up, I might as well have it custom made. I gave them a down payment and waited a month for my bass. It's a jazz with no inlays, bartolini pickups, open gear tuners, a badass bridge, and a precision bass knob configuration. It even has the etched backplate with a serial number. I saved and payed 1250 for it... I love my Blondie. I was totally heart broken to find the store shutdown. But I got one of their basses.

Hey guys! This is my 48th Street Custom Guitars bass. It seems it's from 1983. PJ pickup setup and a wonderfull flamed one piece mable body with a notorius 80s Glam Rock color, hahahahha. One piece maple neck. Reverse action tunning keys and DiMarzio pickups; all passive circuit. Volume per pickup and one single tone control; I changed the knobs. I love this MF but I wonder who's bass was this originally as the were custom built; any of you know your bass origin? I mean, it will me very interesting to know the original owner as this were made for pro touring or session players; even famous people. Cheers guys!!
