4x10 or 2x10 + 1x15?

hi guys

i already have a 2x10 cab, but i want to get another one to run my head at 4ohms. Basically i can get another 2x10 cab, to make 4x10 total. or i could get a 1x15.
I play funk rock, with a lot of slap. but i do like a good bit of low end.

anyway what are your thoughts?

Then you can run a 210 210+115 or 115

I have a Hartke 2x10 which i use with a 4x10.
This gives me plenty of low end and lots of mid to cut through the mix.
This also means i can just use the 4x10 for smaller gigs or practice so it's a really flexible rig.

2x10 + 1x15 - you'll get enough booming lows and the 2x10 will complement highs nicely. I have an SWR Goliath III 2x10 and an Orange 15" cab.

It's nice too because for smaller gigs or jams, I can bring just one cab

That's what I've got. Hartke 3500 , 1x15, 2x10.

You can use just the 15 for smaller gigs...sorted

Give 'em a listen. Your ears are the key to this. If you like the sound of your 210, that's the basic sound shape you'll get by adding additional 10's. A 15 is going to give a totally different character to your sound. Personally, I'd choose to add 10's, but that just speaks to the sound I prefer. If you can play your current rig with each cabinet, I think you'll know pretty quickly which sounds best to you.

Why do you want to run at 4 ohms?

If it's just for higher power, be advised that doubling power only gets you 3dB louder, which is very little.

Adding more speakers will get you louder, plus you have more power.

You should add 10s rather than mixing speaker sizes. Mixing sizes often doesn't sound very good. But you have to listen, and have someone listen in the room.

It is.... but I notice with my 4x10 and 1x15 set up you can't make up your mind to eq for the 10's or the 15. They do require different eq settings, I dial in the 10's and then just plug the 15 in.
