4x10 or 2x15 mesa cabs

Just got the Bass 400+ (NOS) and I am playing through a Powerhouse 1000 (4x10/1x15 in one cab), one word: AWESOME!! I was all set to get a 4x12 (and I might still) but I have never been happier with my sound then I am right now. I love my Titan, it is still the best sounding HYBRID I have played (IMO) but there truly is something magical about power tubes!

Definitely a cab you should check out (PH1200), get the best of both worlds all in one package! The newer ones are rated at 1200 watts (they increased the 15" driver capabilities to 600 watts)

Hmm, 4x10, 1 x15, 4x12 , now that would be a bass rig :bassist:

You are wrong. See the FAQ.

If I sat you down with an Acme B2 and a Schroeder 115L, blindfolded, and asked you which one was the 15, I'd lay a million dollars on you being wrongity wrong wrong. There are a dozen examples like that.

Speakers sound like their box size, tuning, and specs, excepting midrange dispersion characteristics. it is true that 15" drivers very often have larger xmax and lower Fs than 10" drivers, but that is not a rule. there are many many 15" drivers with far worse low frequency performance than 10s.
I'm sure the same holds true for the folks who put 10's and 12's and such in their car audio systems and you can hear them booming from 4 blocks away. But when your talking about every day bass amps that the average Joe is going to find at the local music store or a Guitar Center - theres a significant difference between 15's vs. 10's and 12's.

There may be a significant difference, but there is an identical type pf difference between different 10s.

Wow I really didn't think I'd get this much response! Thank you for your words and knowledge, I haven't played through 12's yet, next time to GC I'll try em' out. Still enjoying the 15 and the MB 400+!! Don't like the horn/twitter in it, does anyone know how to de-wire it or just turn it off without cutting wires?? I'm not good with wires and figure I'd ask before I start cutting or disconnecting something more than I want. Ampeg put this knob in the back to decrease or increase the frequencies (thank you youtube for pointing that out) but I don't hear much difference when I change it up??
