5 string explorer bass?

Gibson made a 5 string Thunderbird Studio model for a while. They come up occasionally on Ebay - but they arent Exploreres. You might need to try and locate an Epiphone Explorer bass body, and mate it up with a 5 string neck and all of the other necessary mods.

Ibanez will be coming out with one later this year. Here is a picture of it:

A 5 string explorer will be a custom made bass. You could build it out of parts for about $500 +/- depending on the parts used.

It is on my list of basses to build for myself in the future.

I want to do a 5 string Rickenfaker, a 5 string sg bass, a 5 string explorer, a 5 string Mouradian. And a few other projects.

This is how I made myself one out of a brand new Epiphone Thunderbird Pro V:

Captions in Finnish, but you'll get the idea from the pics! Better photos of the finished product coming up. The thing works, and for some reason the sound changed a little from smooth Gibson-like towards more aggressive Musicman-like. Maybe it's the characteristics of the mahogany I used. Already played one gig with it and will be using it for hard rocking!

Might even consider building another one if someone's interested.

DUDE!
wow that looks sick. Was it a hard mod (technical i mean)? Awesome result though.... Now do a buzzard :)

Cataldo basses. He has a line of Fenderbirds based off of a lot of stuff John Entwistle had made. One of them is an Explorer body with a Fender neck. He offer's all of them in 4 and 5 strings.
