For those of you who are interested in the arco quality of the 5 string bass here's a video that demonstrates how nice it is to have that extended range without having to play so far into thumb position.

Are you using a biesele for your arco pickup?

No. The Biesele barely even picks up the string vibration when you play arco. It's only for pizz playing, and I only use it when I need that upfront, bass guitar-ish punch on the front end of the note.

Most of the arco tone is the Vektor with some Full-Circle dialed in for cut.

That bass won a gold medal at the recent VSA competition. It is quite a work of carving prowess. I played it and figured out it has a 5 octave range! Mario studied art and sculpture before he was trained in luthiery. Quite a talent.

He certainly is. In his Bio, he talks about a range of B to D also. A high D would let some retain what is familiar on the G and explore something new on top. I like that idea. The high C, IMO is more of the same. I also would like to explore Edgar Meyer's drop tuning on the Low B(e). Imagine. Having 5ths on the bottom and top (A{d} A D G D). Brian. You use a dropped low D right? I bet that bass would resonate like a dream. Check out all the neck adjusters for height and tension.
