50K Pots Measuring out to 23k?

I replaced the preamp in my Warwick FNA Jazzman a while ago with an Aguilar OPB-3. The preamp came with 50k pots for the bass treble and mid controls, which I installed. My bass pot went bad so I got another 50k to replace it with. Before installing I checked it with the multimeter and it correctly measrued out to 50K. For kicks I checked the existing treble and mid pots and both measured out to 23.5k. Is there something causing this? They are lableled as 50k pots and came from Aguilar - am I missing out on some EQ range or is this just some measurement quirk?
