55-01 with Nordstrand Dual Coils

I'm planning on going with four metal knobs similar to what you'd find on a Tele or a P-Bass. I like the chrome. Huge? I really liked the big chrome knobs on my old L-1000 (it was first year, I don't know if G&L changed them later or not). I also liked the little chrome plate that the the pots attached to. Actually, I just loved the look of that bass.

I also really dig your '51 P5. _THAT'S_ a bass. None of that sissy forearm contour crap with that bass. It's a slab - a beautiful slab.

If you ever decide to sell that thing, there's going to be a bidding war, judging by the response I've seen on it.

Bill, I know this has been posted for a big, but just wanted to say thanks for recording those sounds and putting them here. I have a Sterling HH that I will be modding soon and your sound samples were helpful in planning that. Much appreciated!

I know this is an old thread, but I finally got some decent clips of the Dual Coils with various coil and pick up pan options.
All Recordings are :
Lakland 55-01 Rosewood board
Nordstrand Dual Coils wound Parallel
Bart NTMB-L (set-flat)
TI Super Alloy Strings(cleaned but not new)
Played with a pick (sorry, it's my weapon of choice on this bass)
UA Solo 610 DI, Digi 002, Protools, no processing, tweaking, just straight in.

I was very Curious To hear the clips,but No way I can open them in any browser(opera firefox explorer)even with disabling Firewall Or antivirus.

In my case the 55-01/Nordstrand DC's project is picking up again. I've got the coil splitting switches coming and I'll be sitting down and ordering the pots I need to dump the on board preamp next week. The next month looks like it's going to be "bass electronics mod month". The 55-01, Ibanez Artcore and possibly the Yamaha BB300 are all getting work done.

I was thinking that you probably used the bridge pup in series on that one. Very stingray-ish... I dig, alot. Did your 55-01 come with the bart preamp or did you add that?

the NTMB-L was a factory install, i swapped the pick-ups and added the coil switch.

So I'm about to purchase one of those 55-01 basses. All you's guys still have your Nordy-modded 55-01's and play them out? Or did the honeymoon phase prove too powerful?

For me it's not so much that the honeymoon is over as it is "been playing my sadowskys and alleva more."
I did take the 5501 out last weekend for the first time in a while, and it's still got it.

My 44-01 with Nordy DC is my main bass. I sometimes play other basses, but I always come back to the 44-01. It sounds perfect.

I was gigging my 55-01 every night untill I played a DJ5, that Jazz Bass thing just really, really worked in my main gig ( modern country). I traded for a DJ5, probably should have kept the 55-01. Every time I listen to recordings of that bass or see pictures of it, I miss it. But hindsight is 20-20.

I don't know if I ever had a Honeymoon Phase. I've still got the bass and I have no plans to change the pickups. I've been drawn to four strings for at least the last year and I love the plug and play aspect of my P-Bass, so it's been getting the bulk of my attention, although my somewhat concerted effort to fall in love with my Yamaha RBX4 A2 has panned out so it's also been seeing some action.

My 55-01 is one of the two best five strings I've ever owned (the other being my Noguera fretless) and I have no hesitation in recommending one. The DC's were a good choice for me, too.
