6 string club

So I got my first 6 string, right away I notice the on hand selection for strings is kinda lacking..big time. I'm in the Tampa bay area so you'd think there would be more options locally. I have always been a 5 string guy, traded my stiletto studio 5 for this bass. It needed a major time up but I think I got it fine tuned.

Cool! The Ibanez is a major Bang for the Buck winner. Several of my students have this bass and it's impressive. As to strings, I use the Carvin sets because:
1. They're not expensive (important if you have a lot of 6 string basses)
2. They feel/sound good to me.
3. LaBella makes them-I've always liked LaBellas.
4. No worry about which store carries them, I get about 6 sets at a time direct from Carvin and it's well under $120.

I really love DR hi beams. But I also like to mess with drop tuning a lot, so I'm thinking about ordering ddt's.

This bass I got all out of whack, the saddles were lifted up to the max, the low string truss rod was cracked tight, while the high string truss rod was loose. There was very thin rubber under the pickup cover so they wouldn't lift at all. I fixed all of that. Only problem I still have is the bridge is lifting some at the tail, and I still get some string buzz.

Too bad I didn't have any mouse-ka-tools to fix it.

6 string sets are allways a hassle. On-line is your best bet. There are a couple of really good places with lots of brands and choices. Around here GC stocks exactly ONE 6 string set and most stores stock none. Even the high-end guitar-bass shop only has 5 string sets. They used to have a drawer full of matching C strings you could buy, but eventually I bought them all and he never bothered to restock the drawer. So it's been online for me for some time.

Carvin strings (if you like them, are great buys to) I don't like them all, but some of them are really nice IMHO. Price is great too.

And welcome to the wonderful world of 6 string.

I have some DR sets and I put one on my Hotwire fretless 6. They are nice sounding strings. I don't know what to tell you about the bridge. Have you checked out some other Ibanez basses to see if that's the norm? You might be able to replace the bridge, but maybe it's just neck relief or uneven frets causing the buzz.

I checked the sr506's they have at GC, but those are newer model's that have an updated bridge, I read on Google that this is common with this bass(the older model) I can buy the updated bridge though as a direct replacement when I get some extra cash. But for now this one isn't causing problems.

Exactly, I tried Sam ash and GC, both had one set, so I got d'addario's for now because I needed then right away to do my setup. Now that I have working strings I can wait for more to come in the mail haha.

IME, D'Addario 6 string sets have pretty high tension. You will probably be able to tweak the action down a bit with DRs. They will definitely feel a bit slinkier than the D'Addarios.
Ironically, I use D'Addarios on all my fours. Go figure....
