$600 to spend, help?

Im looking to finally upgrade from my squier p bass. Im play a majority of all kinds of rock and metal. And i love a crushing low end sound with a cut thru mid sound, highs dont really matter to me much. I dont wana spend anything over $600.

Maybe a Tribute. I've never seen a USA G&L L2000/L2500 go for less than $700. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? :help:

OP...For your style, the best bass I've played under $1000 in the Sterling by Music Man Ray34. (More info here: http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend...sic-Man-RAY34-Electric-Bass-Guitar?sku=580995). They are over $600 new, but if you can find a used it will definitely be in your price range.

Everyone will have their favorites though and these threads usually just end up with everyone shouting out their favorite brand without regard for your budget or style. You'll get some good suggestions here, but take them...ALL OF THEM (including mine), with a grain of salt. You will have to do some work by going to as many music stores as you can and playing as many basses as possible.

I paid $350 for my L1000, $400 for my L2000 and $480 for my L1505.

If I were to checkout basses in the range of $600 right now, the first I'd want to try is the Schecter Raiden Elite. Been gassing on it for awhile. I bet it sounds dark and growly with the mahogany and MM style pickups.

Nice scores all around. What this before or after 1995? ;)

I know it happens, but I don't think your experience is the norm. If it was, I'm sure I would already have owned more than 1 G&L as I have considered them several times in the past. Only played 2 in person though and never owned any. A Tribute can still be had in the OP's price range and is a nice bass if he can't manage to score a USA G&L in his price range.
