Beautiful !!! Is it a refin with a change of color and possibly tuners? Original case?

It was my father's bass. It is all original including color. Case is included.

Yes, original case. Sure wish I did have candy.

I've got kool stuff for my dad's Gibson Johnny Smith - original hang tag and instructions for humbucking pickup adjustment. I've attached a picture just for the fun of it.

I've also attached another of the Fender.

Looks like Lake Placed Blue in the non-faded spots under the bridge ashtray.

Yes, I hate to say it (because it really effects value) I think thats LPB.

Show a Pic with the pick guard off You want to take the Pic of the pots solder joints anyway.

I've seen faded 66 ocean turquoise(it's VERY rare).It faded into a ugly brownish mess of a color.

I'd like to say that given how close these colors are (LPB& OT), the nature of cameras monitors colors ect, the potential implications of value, that my previous opinion should be taken with a serious grain of salt. The sellers word should be taken as good until proven other wise.

I haven't taken the pots apart as I don't want to mess with an entirely original bass. I am absolutely certain that it has had no work done on it and just want to leave it as pristine as it is now.

If a serious purchaser would like to have a luthier examine it and report to him, I'd be willing to do that.

As far as the colour - it hasn't been out of the case much and so has not faded - LPB is very blue and bright compared to OT. I feel quite certain it is OT. I've compared zillions of pix of both colours on my calibrated monitor and feel quite certain about the colour.

My dad was a serious classical guitarist and used this bass very little - he belonged to a little dixieland group that played about once a month. He also played upright string bass in the Detroit Suburban Symphony. This guitar was just a 'little pet' for him. Hence the lack of fading and scratches.

But for sure, if someone could prove that it was LPB, I would be more than willing to agree and adjust the price accordingly. I've spent hours looking at colour charts and guitars and just can't see that it's LPB.

Do you mean you do not recommend investing in vintage instruments? Seems a better investment than the market these days, with the usual caveats. I read a column recently in Vintage Guitar, where George Gruhn said the difference between investing in the market and investing in old guitars is that when the market goes bad all you have is bad paper, whereas if you invest in old guitars, you have something very nice to play.

Sorry to hijack the thread. It is a beautiful bass and I wish you the best of luck with its sale.

Vintage guitars are appreciating at 8 to 10% per year. In 10 years this guitar should be worth nearly double it's current value. But.. they aren't making any more '65 Precision Ocean Turquoise, so the rarity should increase resulting in an even greater appreciation in value.

I'd hang onto it as a legacy for my children, but my "retirement fund" has been downsized as well.

Now to find a buyer who has the funds .... My children may end up with it after all.
