'69 bassman head- early 70's 2x15 cab

I lost a speaker in my Bassman 50 cab and am trying to decide if I should replace one,(non-matching) or both (matching) speakers. Because it is not ported, I would appreciate any input this forum would throw my way.

Is that the cab with the diagonaly opposed speakers? if so they would not be JBL D140s but el cheapos.

yes, they are diagonal, so, is this a cabinet that would be suited for a 2 speaker upgrade?. And would K140's be worth hunting down- they seem a bit high powered for a 50 watt head.

Thanks, Sean...I just picked up the Bassman and cab for $250...I think I won't be hurtin' too much to drop another $220 into it for the Thames. One question- Why the Thames over other Weber ceramics?

I have a spare '67 Dual Showman 2x15 cab and I was getting ready to put some Weber California Ceramic 15's in it, I think they have one with specs for use as a bass driver vs. guitar speaker. Weber is about 45 minutes north of me, so I'm going to stop in to pick them up.

Well, either will work and sound great, but the Thames will sound more "british," whereas the Michigan will have more booty and sound more like an EV.

I talked to Ted previously about this very issue. He said they can build a California Ceramic 15" with specs to be a bass driver that would come very close to a D-140. I think I even saw "Cali Ceramic - Bass" listed on their site somewhere.

I'm currently deciding whether to put the Cali Ceramic or Michigan 15's in my empty Dual Showman cab. I'm leaning towards the Cali so I can compare to my D-140s.

I live only about 45 minutes from Weber, but that doesn't really do too much for me other than I can pick up the drivers to save on shipping.

I think it was an extra $5-10 per speaker - something reasonable. I found an email from Ted in which he references the California 15" Ceramic with a "Bass" cone, and gives the full specs for the speaker.

thanks for all the input guys, I pulled the other speaker and found it to be an aftermarket= an STS brand?. Anyway... I think I'll go with a couple Webers- not sure which model yet.
