70s vs. other jazzes

So I was thinking. Are the pickups of a 70s jazz bass any different from any other jazz bass? Since the main differences are the heavy ash body and the pickup spacing, would other jazz pickups sound like that in an Ash body with 70s spacing?

Thanks in advance guys.

I think on the 70s jazz bass it was strictly the location of the pickup being a little closer to the bridge. I read the reason had to due with funk music being so popular at that time. The wider spacing seems to give the bass more bite less growl. Having owned two P/J's one with the jazz p/u in the 70's position and one in the 60's I would suggest a fralin split coil +5% over wound in the 70s position I had that in my Lull P/J and it was real sweet.
