Why do people type 7ender instead of Fender? I've seen it here and on other forums. Is it some kind of derogatory thing?

It’s related to the way the “F” is formed in the company logo, some sort of variation of cursive handwriting. I don’t know...my take on it is that some do that to be cute or clever, and some who are Fender haters do it out of spite, as if they’re defacing or dismissing the name, I suppose. All of it kind of lame and childish in my book, just like those who spell out ‘guitar’ or ‘guitarist’ with asterisks, as if it was filthy language. Just grow up.

I find it oddly irritating. Like people who say "sammie" for sandwich. Petty, I know.

I recall buying a 6-pack there and having to pay extra for a plastic bag. My guess is they've found a way to tax "sandwich", but not "sammich".

You might struggle in Australia where we tend to shorten most words . . . And split words in half and add ‘bloody’ in the middle.
Nothing ruins my day quite like the word “Ibby“. What a horrible, horrible word for Ibanez.
According to Robert Perine (who did the Fender advertisements) and his talk with Leo Fender:
"Randall assured me that Leo and I could work it out if I took along an alternative sketch, perhaps a compromise version. Unclear as to what that actually meant, I drove to Fullerton with yet another design option. Leo, feeling put on the spot by the meeting, stared at my sketch for a long time, focusing mainly on the F.
“It’s not a regular F, you know. It’s a German 7,” he informed me."

Ibanez (アイバニーズ, Aibanīzu) butchered the pronunciation of the original Spanish, the luthier Salvador Ibáñez. The I should really be ee. Because I have been corrected pronouncing it the Spanish way, I rebel and call it Ibby instead. The I pronounced as ee. Don't worry, we will probably never meet.
