Thought I would share my ridiculous and short-lived 80's style GK rig.

The 4x12 cabinet has been ported and now has 2 Delta 12-LFC's in it. I'm going to replace the 15 eventually.

Unfortunately, the rig got a whole lot less awesome when the 800RB blew up a couple of weeks ago (whole power section is shot apparently?). Hartke 3500 on top isn't quite the same.

Most awesome B-string, thanks! My 800rb suffers no issues but I'd be tempted to buy another one " board replacement" kit for it for whenever. Are pre or power supply boards available as well? OP, it is a 30 year old amp, but some of us play them because nothing better's come along in the last 30 years.:D

I'm with you, I loved that thing, but I was thinking more along the lines of spending hundreds of dollars to replace some parts when other parts may be about to go bad---I think I only paid $250 for it anyway---I didn't want to put that much money into a losing battle.

If the whole assembly is available, it may be a good time for me to start messing with this crap myself.

Whole boards means unhook some wires, replace board, hook up wires to same spot....monkeys could do it.:D. Then you take it to a real tech to be bench tested, adjusted, etc. SS amps need to be bias adjusted and checked out as well to insure you're starting off with what is essentially a brand new amp....and tip him well.

I would def let a tech give it a check. I have an 800rb, I always thought was running great, but a tech said the bias was way off when I brought it in for a pot replacement.

Not to hijack the thread but, since this has to do with the 800RB mine just blew up a couple of days ago. When I go to turn it on it will light up for a minute and then blows the fuse. Any suggestions? Is there anything that I can check for myself? Since I live almost four hours away from the nearest tech.

Look closely then at all the electrolytic caps first then for swelling or spitting. You could have one shorting, isolate the power amp to be sure it is not a severe bias or shorted output. If it still fails isolate the preamp board. If it still fails remove the rectifiers and re test to isolate the power transformer. Just like trouble shooting a dead PC without a diag. card or power supply tester. Remove "pieces" from the system......you know the rest.
Just beware the power reserve (in joules) is much higher then a PC, amps kill (or at least burn REAL bad). ;)
