9 volt battery --different size!

I put double 9v battery cases (Gotoh brand) in my preamped basses. I use one side hot and the other as a holster for a spare.

I recently bought a double pack of DieHard 9v and they are too large to fit!

The Panasonic I have is 1.731 x .643

DieHard 1.780 x .677

That doesn't seem like much, and it probably wouldn't matter in a unit that had a void and the typical two-snap contact piece, but it's enough larger that it won't work in the Gotoh.

I don't know if this goes with the larger size, but, I have been noticing lately that some of the terminals on 9 volts are hard to snap on some of my battery powered deivices than they used to be. Duracells especially.

Yep, I get bloody fingers occasionally from battery change outs.

The batteries that people here raved about for a while (Powerbug?) were also oversized to have larger poles in them.

I got caught out by NiMh recharge ones. They are all bigger than standard 9v size. I sure would like some that are normal size.

Make sure to buy PP3 9V batteries. They are (I believe) the standard 9V that you are after.

Ya, too bad they all can't agree on one single size spec instead of an approximation.

BTW, those Powerbugs were awesome and they should have stayed in business. But a funny thing...if you forget to turn your wireless off after a gig, they're no better than a standard alkaline

Some of these larger batteries can get jammed really bad in acoustic guitar preamps. I had to learn that the hard way.

I think it's from a newer 9V battery technology where they use stacked plate cells instead of series connected rod-shaped cells to lower the impedance and increase performance. That's cool and everything, but I wish they fit where they're supposed to.

i have heard of similar size issues years ago - i think it was that duracel were just a smidge shorter than an energizer - so, in certain wireless setups, the duricel actually was too loose.
