It's often possible to get significant treble extension with stock pickups by switching to low capacitance cables. Try a short (<1 meter)patch cable to the amp and see if you like what it does to the sound. A more permanent solution could involve adding a buffer inside the wiring cavity or alternatively adding 6.35mm connectors to video or TV coax cable.

But if you wanna swap the pickups consider the Wilde J-45. They're manufactured using a refined winding process that results in a very clear sound and cost slightly less than Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio due to a direct to customer business model. I'm sure you get much better value than with Squire parts dollar-for-dollar...or should I say baht-for-baht?

I'm not an expert on 60's tonal qualities but I just installed these in my jazz bass and they sound great. Definitely more of a vintage tone than what I had in my bass to begin with. The highs seem a little tamed or soft. Not sure if they would meet your first requirement as being bright.

Swapping your volume pots for higher values will also brighten up your bass for not a lot of money. Look for 500k or even 1Meg ohm pots.

Hmm, daimn! I was tossing up between the fralins and antiquity IIs and i ended up buying the fralins. Am now thinking the 60s custom shops will be a good alternative to the antiquity IIs when i'm ready to go that route
