Hi, most medium scale bass guitars out there now are equipped with a J neck, such as the Ibby and Jaguar. What are the ones with a P-bass-ish neck? Let's say a nut between 40-42mm. I only know one that is the Fender Stu Hamm signature Urge bass, wanna know more, THX!

A 32" Medium Scale Bass with A Fairly Beefy Neck?

The Pawnshop Jag is a 32" scale and has a very beefy neck. Of course it is upside down.
Do you mean production basses or is going custom an option? If the latter, how about Maruszczyk? The necks may meet your requirements. They also have a couple of medium scalers in stock, e.g. this one:

The Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Basses are 32" scale and have beefy P-bass necks. No longer in production, but they show up occasionally on Reverb, TB and Craigslist.

Back in the late 70s and early 80s Aria made a series of medium scale basses called "Thor Sound" with abbreviation TSB. As I recall, they had pretty beefy necks, though not as tapered as typical Fender necks, so very comfortable and "fast" to play. As the name suggests, they sound pretty good too.
Hey thx for the reply! I've had an Aria CSB but the neck dived like crazy and the neck had a very thick layer of lacquer on it, which gave me an unnatural plastic-type of feel; The bass itself was also one of the heaviest basses I have played. Does your TSB have the same problems? Thank you!
Hi--I don't actually own a TSB but did play one some time ago. I don't remember any problems with weight or with neck-dive, since it has a longer upper horn than than CSB series, but it is otherwise basically the same bass as the CSB series ones--different body but same pickups and same options. There are bolt-on and set-neck versions, with one or two pickups, and the higher end ones have added switching for different tones, just like the CSB range. I am guessing the TSB and CSB necks will also feel very similar. Japanese basses from that era do tend to have quite heavy lacquer on the necks, I think.

I have one but it was just the body when i found it. I knew it would be difficult to find an ibanez neck so i put on a DYI Allen Eden neck and its great, maybe a bit thicker than the ibanez finger board to back of neck wise.
The other thing about the ibanez is that the body is darn heavy. That bass is my smallest yet heaviest.(I don’t weigh any of them but that difference is obvious)
Oh yea, I've had one and it was an interesting bass. However the in-the-body tuners are really PITA, I can't stop myself touching the tuners when plucking the strings. The huge metal headpiece also cuts my hand when I play among the money notes. The Duncan Designed pickup sounds great tho.
