Double Bass A bit sticky...

I've just got my lovely 1880's German bass back from my luthier and she's not cleaned off all the glue from it. So it's just a little tacky to touch. Can I use rubbing alcohol to clean this off? Any suggestions?

A cloth damp with warm water should take care of it (it worked for me in the past). If your bass has spirit varnish do not ever use alcohol or it will melt the varnish.

Edit: I'm assuming your luthier used hide glue.

Yeah, it's hide glue. Is there anyway to tell if its spirit varnish?

Just use hot water and a cloth!
