Sorry for this, guys! I just wanted to thank Yvon in French. These videos are simply awesome... I'm glad to see the double-thumping technique explained, as my motivation for switching to bass after playing guitar for almost 20 years was Alain Caron, whom I've been listening to since about 1993.

I was lucky enough to see Le Band live in 1994, I think, back when he played with the original members (e.g., Magella Cormier, Jerry de Villiers, Jr., etc.), and there was one night where their rendition of "No Way" was beyond awesome.

Anyway, this also serves as my humble introduction to the forum

It was a cool day at the simmm, next year I will take 2 or 3 day off to go there. Many seminar to attend.
How to build you dream guitar (bass) how to chose the woods harware, etc...
How to record, mix etc
A stick clinic
I saw a concert with a guy playing an acoustic 6 sring fretless fan fret.
And the guitar player was playing an acoustic fan fret guitar.

Next year I send a few day there!

I found my dream job in the United States, and North Carolina is a really nice place to live in. The weather is much better here than in Quebec!

I was actually in Montreal during SIMMM, to renew my passport... I just learned about it too late! I did manage to pick up the Alain Caron live album along with his new CD, Conversations. I liked both so much I had to order two DVDs: one of the concert at Cabaret de Montreal, the other from Uzeb's last show.

That's what I like and this is also what I don't like about Alain Caron.
He is way to clean for me. Almost never hit a bad note, his intonation on the fretless is amazing.
I like guys like tony levin, his playing is not clean at all, but he can make some amazing groove.


On a side note:

I was playing the F picolo at the F boot. I played it for maybe 5 minutes and Alain was right there looking at me play it...
Quite embarrassing!
I gave him the bass and ask him if he wanted to try it. He said sure.
He played it 1000 times better me!

It was the first time I tried a picolo bass, I had no idea what to do with it!

I like guys like tony levin, his playing is not clean at all, but he can make some amazing groove.

I guess that's what happens when you practice cleanliness/intonation at the expense of grooving, though. There's a trade-off, as with almost everything else. Although Alain has got good grooves, it's not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of his playing.

It's kind of like on the guitar. John Petrucci, from Dream Theater, has amazing technical skills, but Scott Henderson, from Tribal Tech, has amazing phrasing and note choice and can improvise incredibly well!
