A few small PA setup questions

I have a "small" PA right now that consists of:

Behringer UB1204 Mixer
Aphex 108 Compressor
Crown MicroTech1200
(2) Peavey PR15 Speakers

Power for MT-1200 in stereo:
310W @ 8, 480W @ 4 and 675 @ 2.

Right now I only use the PA to put band vocals through, but would like to be able to put more stuff (possibly kick drum) through it. I'd also like to use it for house parties either for a band or just an iPod.

1. Would I have enough juice to add a sub, or would I need a second power amp?
2. What is a decent crossover that won't break the bank?
3. What would a be a good freq. rating for a small sub?

Also keep in mind this is for house parties, not a bar or concert hall.

Well first off itd be impossible to run another speaker out of that power amp. Im guessing those speakers are 4 ohms each? I could be wrong if its bridgeable to 2, like if they were 8 ohm speakers maybe. Itd be easier to just buy a powered sub. Something like this: Link Removed

Im not sure about frequency. Youd want it to reproduce a bass no prob and a kick drum so I'm thinking 40hz would be plenty low. If you buy a powered sub you wont need to worry about a power amp or crossover. If you need to buy a crossover the DBX ones arent bad.

I'd run mono and use one side of the power amp for a pair of daisy chained mains and one side for a pair of daisy chained monitors. I'm guessing that mixer has at least one AUX mix, so you can use that for the monitors. If you use 8 ohm speakers that will give you a 4 ohm load on each side, thereby giving you 480W to each speaker pair.

Then add a powered sub.

If the compressor has 2 channels and your mixer has inserts, I'd use it for the kick and snare to tighten up the thump/crack.

PR15 speakers are 8 ohms each.

Compressor is a 2 channel, but currently only one channel is working (need to have it looked at).

Yes it has Aux Sends, Returns and a Mix.

Bluestar, link didn't work.

If your board has them, each channel will have an additional 1/4" jack (aside from the 1/4" input). These 1/4" insert jacks will be either next to the channel input or on the back aligned with the channel.

You would connect the compressor channel to an insert channel with a "Y" cable where the bottom of the Y plugs into the insert and the two tops of the Y (tip/ring) plug into the in and out of the compressor. This essentially "inserts" the compressor between your input to the board and the mixer functions.
