A few words.

It seems that with a simple 'Thank You', Mr. sloasdaylight has hit a nerve. Why don't we all just save our bile for somewhere else, eh? Once again, from a vet.....thanks!
We have service men and women serving Afganistan and we have lost many good people in that fight.
We have a saying here that goes like this,
"If you can't stand behind your soldiers, try standing in front of them".
We have renamed our largest highway, "The Highway of Heros" as it is the route taken by all our soldiers on their way home to their final resting place. Our bridges and over passes are lined with people, baring their Canadian flags in a tribute to the fallen and their families as they make their way home.
I get a knot in my stomach every time this happens and I make it a point to thank each and every soldier I come across.
So, yes, I thank them all for what they do.

From experience, once the rounds start flying down range and past our heads politics and everything else gets thrown right out the window. The only thing that concerned us while under fire was the survival of our fire team, nothing else mattered.
I work in the food service industry so I may be sympathetic but I always make it a point to thank the person behind the counter who is making me food. If there is an open kitchen I always poke my head through the window to say thank you. I may be the only to thank them that day. Is it such a stretch to show appreciation for the people that are feeding you? Is it too much that someone may want to say thanks to a serviceman,...police officer,...fireman for doing their job? Is it really that much skin off your back? You want someone to not say thank you to,...look no further than the banks, corporations and politicians that have us in this quagmire in the first place.

i appreciate threads like this one because not only do they reflect my own feelings - "thank you service men, for putting your life on the line!" but they also bring out the folks who, as a forum admin, i generally need to keep tabs on, the individuals whose primary intent is not to participate constructively in a community, but to annoy, infuriate or offend. in other words, t3h trollz!
in a perfect world i wouldn't need that kind of help - folks would all participate in a community with the intent of maintaining that community positively - but unfortunately that's not the world we live in, and as is evidenced in this thread, it doesn't take a lot of folks intent on disruption to succeed.
