a jazz bass with a bit more "OOMPH"

im looking around for a J bass with a bit more output with the pick-ups. i currently have a squire jazz bass with fender mexican pickups but its lacking the low end i want. i currently have a yamaha bb 1024 with alnico and ceramic pickups and thats pretty powerful and full of tone. are there any jazz models or pickup sets that could keep up with my yammy?

Wire your pickups in series, you'll have a huge jump in power and fullness. Essentially thats what a P pickup is: two single coils in series.
Only one volume knob will be used.

Santellan Sounds (aka Elek-Trix) makes a full wiring harness that not only switches a two-pickup config between series and parallel, but you can alter the tone pot's capacitance by fiddling with a chip's dip-pin switches. Also, it's a solder-less connection system.

Simple. you know how you wired your pickup white wires to a volume pot lug, then the black pickup wires to ground on the volume pot bodies. Undo one black wire from the pot, and undo one white wire from one of the volume pots (whichever one you don't want functioning), and join the two ends together: black to white. Now you have series wiring and it didn't cost you anything to try. Later if you think you want to switch back and forth, you can always wire in a switch or install the tonestyler pot.

I put Fender Super 55 pickups in an FSR Jazz bass. They might just be the most potent pickups Fender ever made. They stopped making them (too dangerous in the hands of non-professionals!) but they're still available. I also added an Audere JZ-3 preamp (no soldering requiered) and the combination was heart attack inducing.
Better than any active Fender Jazz I've ever heard.
I have the Lace Sensor Man O' War pickups and they're going in my Inca Silver CV Jazz along with Madison's Ultimate Jazz control plate...I have a feeling it's going to be a killer.

yupp there pretty raised atm but the pole pieces in the middle of the pickups are raised...could that mean anything?

It's normal. Some jazz pickups have raised pole pieces in the middle since the A and D are higher than the E and G to go a long with the fingerboard radius.
