One thing I failed to mention is that all five positions on the Special are pretty similar in volume while positions 2 and 4 on the SBMM are quieter than the the other 3.
The 18 volt preamp on the EBMM probably has a lot to do with it, but for some reason it was not louder overall than the SBMM.
I figured at 18 volts it would roar like the G&L's, but I actually had to raise the pickups a bit on the EBMM to get the volume to match the SBMM. Not a bad thing just an observation.
But having all 5 positions pretty similar in volume is a big plus for me. I used 3 and 5 pretty much for the entire show this past Saturday.

I just got a used 2015 EBMM Stingray HH. Like the Ray34, it has a 9 volt pre-amp, but the volume is the same in all 5 settings. My Ray34, like yours, has lower volume in positions 2 and 4, but based on this new (to me) bass, I think it’s something strange about the SBMM basses rather than an issue with the 9 volt vs 18 volt pre-amp.
Ah, good to know. It really didn't bother me since I mainly used Position 3 on the Ray34HH and sometimes Position 1 which was the same volume. But after using both 3 and 4, on the EBMM this past Saturday, I really liked being able to that. I guess you're right and it is some quirk on the Ray34HH.
BTW, how is the volume difference between your 2015 and the Ray34HH? My Ray34HH is pretty freaking loud. I had to raise the pickups quite a bit on the EBMM to match it.
Nothing wrong with that lol. However I think I'll stick with just one Stingray Special since it matches up just fine with the Ray34HH IMHO. Unless I find one in Firemist Purple.
That would make me change my mind.That's what I thought. Raising the pickups on the EBMM certainly helped with no detrimental effect.
NP.If you don't mind posting pictures of your 2015 Stingray, I would like to see it.
Thanks! It came almost perfectly set up; all I had to do was change the strings. The truss rod, action, and intonation were spot on.
Same here. Well almost the same here. We took it out of the box, opened up the case and inspected the bass and believe it or not there was no adjustment that needed to be made other than tuning it up.
I still have not had to adjust anything. The action is nice and low, the intonation is perfect, I have not found any dead spots and I have not changed the strings on it yet. I probably won't since it sounds great as is to me. Impressed.
