I saw that there is a recreation of the jet phaser about to be released by Warm Audio

I just bought an original last month and I Wish I knew that this was coming out!

But this looks great and will be a much more reasonable price than the vintage Roland Jet Phasers go for these days.

I took one for the team and emailed MSL about the low end retention. I'll report back. The Night Witch seems to have some really important updates to the circuit that Warm Audio overlooked. But if the Warm has more lows, well, then it beats out the MSL regardless.

MSL's reply about low end loss.

"The tone control is helpful for bass players. It acts more like a bass boost / treble cut when you roll it into the bass region. There is more pronounced low end when you turn the resonance down also. The extreme resonance settings cycle through such high frequencies that your ears will perceive lack of low end. Videos can be helpful to get the general idea, but you never really know what something does until its coming out of your Ampeg 8-10. I have built and sold earlier made-to-order versions of this pedal to quite a few bass players who have yet to complain about low end loss. Just as an aside, something that might help you in the future if you encounter pedals that lack low end is a blend pedal. Most of my work is building custom pedals. I have done a number of fairly simple wet/dry blend pedals for bass players so they can plug in a pedal or a few pedals into its loop and blend in dry signal. I took delivery of a Night Witch last week. It's amazing and I love it. The phaser is the most organic and fun phaser I've ever played and the fuzz has a wonderful feel and quality.

Couple things though.

Pedal cannot be blended, or if you do blend you are limited to only using the phaser or the fuzz.

Why? The phaser section is out of phase with the fuzz section. So putting the pedal in a blend (I use a damnation looper) it sounds good using either effect, but not both together. Requires a phase flip. This is a big disadvantage for live use because the fuzz could use more low end. Peronally I think the fuzz, even with some bass loss, sounds better unblended though. It has a honky midrange thing happening that feels really good under the fingers.

Having accepted the limitations, I'm just accepting the pedal as it's own beast and I'm loving it. I can't turn it off.

Now I am totally interested in Make Sounds Loudly's other more raw looking offerings. I wish Digibass would deal with me on that treble only thing on Reverb.

Interested in this after the Larry Graham video, but concerned about the need to dial back the resonance for full bass sounds, as I don't currently lack for low end with my Moog 12 Stage Phaser, and I like to dime out the resonance and kick it into higher gear with an expression pedal for falling/rising sounds adding to the madness. Definitely wanna try one out, though.

Pretty F'in presumptuous — not all bass players use or even want an Ampeg 8x10.

So he suggests a blend pedal for something he created that can't be blended? He builds a number of custom pedals with blend-ability, but doesn't make his own pedal blendable?

I've been on a phaser kick, but...
Hard pass on MSL's.

As with everything, there are two ways to look at it. I see the lack of blendability as a positive because the pedal on its own sounds so good. In this case, I can accept the limitation. Having said that, the pedal CAN be blended, it's just that you must choose one effect or the other in order to do it with the best sonics. Not ideal, but I bet the phaser being out of phase with the fuzz is a feature of this pedal, not a bug. I've never heard a fuzz/phase combo with such 3 dimensional depth as the MSL, and the out of phase aspect is probably what does it. I can respect your decision to take a hard pass, but you are missing out on a beautiful sound. And probably a sound you can't quite replicate with any other combination.
