Didn't think I'd ever post about an endpin spike but here it is. Probably more use for people based in the UK/Europe but the principles are general..
I ordered a custom spike from Tony Manson at Manson Superspikes and am really glad I did. He builds them to order and was very quick and responsive dealing with an interesting custom request. Specifically, i wanted to able to use both his standard threaded rubber ferrule (which turns out to be excellent), and the Wolf Super endbin ball style cover, which uses set screws and doesn't work that well with a threaded spike.
I sent Tony a spare Wolf ball that I had, and he came up with a nice design where there is a gap in the threading exactly where the set screws would go. Really a perfect fit.
Aside from that, the grooves are exactly the spacing I want, the spike is dangerously sharp (perfect) and hard, and there is even a spare spike on the opposite end that is covered up and ready to use if the first one ever blunts. The stock rubber ferrule is really wide, strong, and is convex so that it has a huge contact area even when tilted over.
So, it's only a spike but I feel much more confident already transitioning between postures and so on -- really pleased I got it. About 3 days from first emailing Tony to receiving the product. Thought this might be helpful for anyone wondering about such a process, and especially for anybody UK or Europe based.
Cheers!
