A real Warwick $$ Bass for $899? This looks fishy...

I was searching for Warwick basses online and I came across this from Amazon.com (who knew they sold basses??):

Really? A Warwick Corvette $$ 5-string for $899? There's no real description and no feedback (yet).

I emailed the company and asked if the price was correct and they said yes.

I'm thinking this might be a Rockbass and not a real Warwick. Anyone else run across this or know anything more about it?

I'm not totally sure about that. Rocket Music has a sponsored thread on here and they are absolutely blowing out their stock of $$'s. You can get a full-fledged 4 string for not much more money than this 5 string Rockbass version. The one 5 string they have left is definitely more expensive than the Rockbass version but if you can work with a 4 and you're ready to buy-I'd suggest you check out Rocket's thread and find the post titled "Warwick SALE". You'll have to click around a bit to get the pricing but I think you'll be surprised (in a good way) :D
You need to get to Rocket's inventory and then add a bass to your cart to see his price. I've never dealt with them but I've heard plenty of good feedback about their operation.

the new rockbass dun have the rockbass logo and now comes with a "w" and double bridge, but the wood and finishing gave it away

In late 2008, they were "giving away" REAL 'Wick $$'s for like $700. Someone on here got one on a whim. Walked into the store, saw it, asked what was wrong with it (nothing....just on sale) and bought it.

That's the real deal. Burgundy Red $$ 5 strings. Used to have one of those, lovely bass.

EDIT : :hmm: Well their description is completely out of whack.

First one : Natural ash : The real Warwick has ovangkol neck and active preamp. What they describe is the new Rockbass $$. The picture is also the picture of the rockbass $$.

Second one : Burgundy Red : The picture is of a Genuine Warwick $$, the description is of a Rockbass $$. The title and picture are misleading. IMO, it's a misprint of some kind. For the retail price and actual price, I'd say they are selling Rockbasses.

"Passive MEC 'dynamic correction' J/J pickups" ????? :confused: They don't know what they are selling!

I'm pretty sure those are real Warwicks, they are just passive and have ash bodies instead of tropical hardwood bodies. I'm guessing they are an updated version of the Warwick Standards that were out a few years ago.

I know they are in the latest GC catalog.
