a retro early 80's chorus pedal

Hi JMJ. Hope all is as well as it can be for you.

If you we're trying to go after a basic chorus tone like the kind you hear on so many early 80s records what pedals might you try in studio to cop that vibe? Example: "walking on the moon" or imagine "lovecats" with a subtle chorus to it. That's what I am seeking.

I searched and saw you like the MXR deluxe chorus. Do you think that would work for those kinds of sounds?

I find Walking on the Moon sounds better with a phaser.

CE-2s are great, but expensive. IME the CE-3 sounds just as good and is pretty cheap. I used one for a few years before I got my MXR BCD.

I also just got a MXR bass chorus deluxe & it's easily the best sounding chorus I've come across. Warm , lush, shimmer. Totally nails the 80's thing & more.

Preferred it over the TC corona ( good shimmer , lacked a little warmth ) but overall great sound I'm just really really picky about chorus sounds.
Also prefer MXR over Boss Bass Chorus which is a good sound warmer than the TC but lacks a little of the shimmer.

The MXR nails the best of both IMHO

It not only comes extraordinarily close, but it also lets you adjust rate & depth in chorus mode, unlike a CE-1 (which I also own). And obvs it also does CE-2 mode. Here's the thing that makes it quite useable: better low-end retention than a CE-1, and also quieter. Perhaps 10% less mojo. But that's worth it.
