Double Bass about stagg and Palatino..

Hello fellow bassists,

I'm looking for an EUB and I found that Stagg and Palatino EUBs are the best options considering my budget. I'm gonna ship it from the US to Cairo and it's gonna cost me a fortune because its height (both the stagg or the palatino). I just wanted to ask if anyone who has any of them, is the neck bolted to the body or what? because it will cost me a lot less if I could ship it in two pieces.

Yes the neck is bolted. Might be worth buying from thomann.de in Germany and shipping from there, that might reduce shipping a little...

I'm not sure if bolted is the correct term. My Stagg's neck is fixed to the body by four screws that could be removed (but probably not too often since they wind into the wood if I remember correctly).
If you unscrew the neck you will get two parts that are about 20 to 22 inches shorter than the instrument in working condition, since there is a lot of overlapping of body and fingerboard.
Remmeber that the headstock can break easily, so this part needs most of the protection during transport.

Maybe someone else can say something about the Palatino, I never had one in my hands.

I've got a Stagg too. You do read a bit about them being fragile in the neck wood department.

Thomman do real good deals on shipping so you can probably get one from them in one piece for the same price as breaking it in two from somewhere else. It ships in a heavy double walled carton.
