About to pull the trigger on my first five string

I am going to try a fiver again, wider spaced this time. I've tried the first two on your list. The Squier works well for me, the ESP/LTD is lovely but a little too tight for me. Both would be good choices if they work for you. I was surprised to find that I like the MIM standard or active V the best though. They can be in your price range used although most of the used standard models that I see up for sale are older ones with the five in line headstock like the active currently has. Once I had the chance to try one in person I found that I like that, but not everyone does so keep it in mind if you start looking at MIMs. The current standard V has a 4+1 headstock like the Squier if you prefer that but I don't know if you can find one used for the right price.

I too have slightly small hands (but somehow play a 6 string now?!?!?! LOL!). I agree that the ESP's are quite comfortable, and have a great neck shape also. Good build quality too. I would definitely check out the Schecter Stiletto Studio 5. Excellent sound, comfort, and tone.

As Schecter is owned by ESP now, they share a lot of the same parts with one another. Build quality is comparable too. Both pretty good for the price. In my experience, the Schecter Stiletto Studio sits better on a strap Vs. the B-205SM though. The Schecter also sounds far better to me personally. Check one out! Cannot go wrong with the ESP either though!

Hope that helps! :bassist:
