Acoustic AB50: cool little amp

my nephew got a bass guitar for xmas (but no amp). assuring the future of at least one more new bass player, I gave up my little Fender practice amp that was already over 10 yrs old. My daughter is also taking bass guitar lessons from me and is using my backup Spector NS/2000 to play. But she lost her amp (heh heh).

So I picked up this little Acoustic AB-50 and it's sweet. :smug: It's a 1x10 with a full-range speaker. It has two channels for input that are either 1/4" instrument inputs or XLR microphone inputs. Kinda cool - both input types are on the same input jack- the XLR on the outer ring and the 1/4" in the center. There is also a 1/8" iPod input that mixes into the main output and a phones-out for silent practicing.

It's a little bright being an acoustic-bass amp (the target instrument, not just the Brand name), but you can sing and play into it at the same time if you're showing something or teaching. Or you and your student can play together, along with material from an iPod.

It's also wedge-shaped, so for small gigs I drag it with me as a vocal monitor. I take the headphones-out of our PA head into this wedge. 50 watts, the one wedge is good enough for bars. I can hear from our regular bins; I stand next to our vocalist and keep this between us. Just a little more juice in yer face.

cool! 200 beans from MF, no tax, no shipping :)

I bought one of these on a whim and was really disappointed. Mine may have been damaged but when you turned the volume past 1/4 of the way up it would start to fart out. With headphones on it was very clean and transparent and seemed to let the sound of the bass shine through with little to know coloration. I also don't think flat EQ was 12' 0' clock because the tweeter would get extremely hissy if you turned it beyond 10 o' clock. Overall, I was pretty disappointed. I am returning it. I think the silver face Eden amps are a better overall value for a small, inexpensive lightweight combo.
