Acoustic bass 25.6" scale

That's about 65 cm. Might try here: Invalid Link Removed - I don't see 65cm listed, but perhaps the 70cm would fit - in any case, these folks know classical nylon bass strings as well as anyone... (ask them). ;)

They're generally my first thought for all bass strings questions, of course (yay BSO!), but not sure about for the classical contrabass strings, maybe. I know the folks I linked have them and have answered my annoying noobie questions gracefully. :)

Savarez LOW640R Lower Octave NT Guitar Strings (650mm scale), Full set $20.95 STRINGS BY MAIL. I tried it but they have normal tension that is to weak to have a good playing result. In fact the strings must have an higher linear mass, maybe with a double wound.

Ok, getting closer at least - ask them about heavier custom gauges maybe? They have done custom orders for me in the past.

The LaBella Silverbacks *should* fit (I'm afraid you'll have to ask LaBella or Gold Tone to be sure; I think they will, based on reports about another, not nyloncore, LaBella set also made for the Gold Tone MicroBass that according to a TalkBass member is about 26" in full-winding length).

La Bella Silverbacks Strings for Gold Tone Microbass
From gauges alone, they should have more tension than the Savarez.

Oh, and, please report back if you decide to try them or anything else! :)

Yeah, that's another angle of attack entirely, from the uke/micro bass side, but they sound similarly constructed, ought to work. Are those the same ones on the new Taylor? I have the 25" scale Gold Tone, I'll go measure the strings, maybe there's enough extra.

@CARLOS VALINHAS - just to be sure, you mean a 4 string set, correct?

Those are these:

The D'Addario EXPPBB190GS. I didn't suggest them because gauges are similar to the Savarez

(G and D same or almost, the A is actually thinner than the Savs at .062 vs. .067, the E is a little larger at .09 vs. .086) so they may not give him a significant rise in tension. On the other hand, @lz4005 and @SBassman have recently commented favourably on the D'Addarios' properties, including comments about them feeling nice and firm. So yeah, they might also do the trick after all. The LaBellas are perhaps a safer bet as regards tension, but then again I haven't tried either.

I didn't say they were nice and firm. They just roll under your finger less than long scale Acousticores do.

Just ordered a set of the LaBella Silverbacks thanks, will try to remember to update here with impressions and winding length measurements when they come in.

Just in case someone else stumbles into this thread, here are the remaining options I'm aware of for (around) this scale and tuning:
1) the OCTA-8NS 8-string guitar (drop-E, EBEADGBE) set made by Pyramid for Ortega Guitars.

Designed for the Ortega RCE159-8 guitar (and an earlier model called the Octa Suite I think); 690mm/~27-1/16" scale, so a little longer than standard guitar scale. Gauges are .029-e / .032-b / .041-g / 031w-D / .037w-A / .046w-E / .060w-B / .083w-E, so even thinner than sets discussed above. Still, it is an option;
2) Magma Strings GCT-E Transpositor Bass Sound Mi-E.

I own a set but haven't yet used it. In fact I know it's somewhere in the room but not quite where exactly... So no gauges, sorry (they're not listed anywhere online that I know of, and IIRC not on the packet either - I'd have to measure them if/when I found them, but I don't own a caliper). I suspect it's a similar product to the Savarez LOW640R anyway. Other problem is I have no idea if and where they're sold in the US. As far as Europe, I doubt the German store I got them from has any left, but I haven't checked recently.
EDIT: OK, nevermind, Thomann has it:

If the OP is in South America they might be even easier to find (Magma is an Argentinian company);
3) Magma Strings GCT-BG10 Transpositor Bass & Guitar 10 strings.
which I strongly suspect to simply consist of the four lowest strings from the GCT-E "Bass Sound" set, plus one of their 6-string classical guitar sets. No linkie here, I used to see them for sale online in Europe but haven't lately.

It is a 4 strings set [G2(98Hz) - D2(73Hz) - A1(55Hz) - E1(41Hz)].

@CARLOS VALINHAS:
Actually there is an option 4) that I didn't include above because it's a set I've never seen for sale anywhere. In fact, I've only seen it mentioned in relation to the instrument that it was made for, which is produced under the same brand as the strings:

In practice, Magma Strings has announced - and is perhaps already producing, but I've no idea - a 5-string bass in standard guitar scale, the Transpositor Bass, equipped with strings designed under the same principles as the Transpositor series sets that I discussed in post #15, with an added low B string. The interesting thing is that the company has disclosed string diameters and tensions for the accompanying string set, for the purpose of comparing them to those of a conventional, long-scale steel-core set and bass:
Invalid Link Removed
If you look at the second tab, last two columns, we have the following gauges and tensions converted in (decimal) inches and pounds:
G .04", 15.75lbs
D .053", 15.86lbs
A .063", 15.53lbs
E .095", 17.4lbs
B .12", 17.62lbs

This can be useful to you in two ways:
a) if you're expect the LaBella Silverback set to be too much of an increase in tension, you could get this Magma set (assuming you can order it from where you live) and simply not use the low B; or you could contact them and ask if the G-D-A-E strings in this 5-string set are the same as those in the GCT-E and GCT-BG10, if those are easier to find or more interesting to you;
b) if, conversely, the LaBella .115 gauge still looks thin to you, you could get this new Magma set, discard the G, install the B-E-A-D and tune them up to E-A-D-G. However, I'm only saying the option exists, not recommending the experiment: if you decide to try it, proceed at your own risk. (All this assumes these strings can be found/ordered at all; if they cannot the points are irrelevant.)

__

Finally, in case you live in Portugal, you could just contact the AGI/NOVAGI/Dragão string company and order a custom set from them. They already make nylon-core bass guitar sets - here's an oddity, a set made for two-octave-down violin tuning (G1-D2-A2-E3):
Dragão D037 Violã Baixo Acoustic bass Bass Classical 4 string
but there's another one for regular EADG (long-scale, I guess) that has G:.048 / D:.065 / A:.093 / E:.11,
so it would just be a matter of winding them to the correct length for your 25.6" bass.

(Of course if you do live in Portugal chances are you already know about them... ^^)

What bass is this for? I need to know about every guitar scale bass on the planet.

Know that I have been successful in the past with using the LaBella contrabass strings on a 25 inch scale acoustic Bass. It could use a little more tension but it did work pretty well. I am going to repeat it on an Ibanez PNB14E soon. Strings arrive Monday.

It is an homemade bass from an acoustic guitar Jumbo box. I have it with a Savarez set but the strings tension is weak. I need to find some strings with more tension because i do like to play it with a low action and the strings must have a quick response to avoid something like a fret buzz.

I just got a 26" scale. It has long scale D'Addario XLs on it and they work. Its a 5 string, with 135-45 set, tuned B-G like a 34". I'm really amazed, low tension but they don't feel like noodles.
My original intention was to tune this set of strings E-C, sort of like cutting off the top 5 frets off a 5 string, but I'm enjoying it as it is.
I'll try a set of Chromes for 8 string guitar to see if they work.
I might do a video next weekend if I have time.
