I love mine. Just a cheap POS- defretted it myself and came to life. Highly recommend you get one.

Had a Kelly, liked it a lot for "just tinkering about", but wasn't loud enough to do anything with others.
Needed to be amped to play with others. And thought that part suxed! To my ear it sounded like crap when amped.

I like the general idea, but not the execution. Most are too huge and too long to play comfortably, and even the best of them don't put out enough acoustic volume, which entirely defeats the purpose of having one IMO.
I will admit that they look cool and serve the limited purpose of (quiet) practice when an amp isn't available.

the only one i would consider buying and will probably end up buying is a rob allen mouse.. i wouldnt buy one without piezo's or some type of pickup
I really love the unplugged sound and volume from my Dean Playmate. It's probably one of, if not the best value for the money. The piezo pickup leaves a ton to be desired though but what do you expect from a $150 Chinese made bass?
I liked mine at first, but I was really disappointed the first time I had an acoustic jam session with a guitarist. His acoustic guitar had so much more volume than my ABG that I could barely hear myself play. He said that he coundn't hear me at all unless I was playing up on the G string.
The other thing that I just couldn't get use to was the wierd angle I'd have to keep my plucking hand just to get around the large body and over the strings.
I sold my ABG back to Guitar Center last year and used the trade-in value towards a new Fender MIA P-bass. I haven't regretted it at all.

Well, I'm definitely a big fan. But I do think that custom made acoustic basses make a world of difference compared to the average production acoustic bass. As far as tone and comfort. Here's my 6-string Kinal Kompact acoustic:
