When you say old, do you mean vintage or used? I'm partial to Martin for several reasons. I've got a 00C-16GTAE. It's a thin body that plays and feels great. It's also tough to beat Martin's build quality since they've been making acoustic instruments for 175 years. Martin is building me a custom version of this bass. I live near the factory and have friends that work in the custom shop/artist relations so they helped me desgin it.
You don't see these coming up used very often as they're not that popular to begin with. Someone here has a used Tacoma for sale. That's a nice bass too and one you should consider. You can also go custom, but then you're getting into serious dollars. It all depends on what you're looking to do with the bass.

last week, i played [This invalid link has been removed] in a shop: WOW!
Very sensitive, very nice brilliant tone! Plays almost like a high-class electric with really low action. It was possible to play clean chords at the edge of the fingerboard, tapping, slapping everything really fine.

Thanks for all the info so far! Yeah I was hoping to get one used but it may be easier in the long run to go with a new bass. I will probably end up ordering one off the internet if something good doesn't come along soon.
Where I live the music shops don't have a great selection and it's mostly electrics. I will be using this bass for jazz mostly and maybe some softer rock.

the tacoma thunderchief is the only way forward with acoustic bass as far as im concerned, since i got mine, myself and every bassist that has got his hands on it has been blown away my the tone and volume.
I thought id never get an acoustic bass due to fact that they had to be amplified to compete with acoustic guitars but the tacoma holds strong even in a jam with horns, accordian, snare and another double bass!

I'm very happy with my Martin BC15-E. Great tone, very playable neck. My only complaint has been that the finish doesn't wear very well - it has "reliced" quickly. You usually find them used for under $1k, new $1200 to $1300.
