Acoustic guitar only

I'm looking for a way to make some side money without being dependent on other people.

How bad would people miss solos and lead parts if I did a solo project with just acoustic guitar and vocals? All I can do is play basic open chords. With the help of a capo I can play most chord progressions, but I'm no good at lead riffs of any kind on acoustic guitar. Is it worth a shot or would it be a complete failure?

Taylor Swift has made some dough with a few chords and a capo.

i used to do solo acoustic gigs. the bar i work at has music every thursday night. usually the music is one guy playing acoustic guitar. the entertainment varies each time depending on the playing, singing and banter. some very entertaining, some not so much. i stopped doing it because in a 3-hour show, i would play 40+ songs. i felt like i was boring the people....and myself.

that said, i am playing that gig tomorrow with a few friends. i just bill it as, "Teddy & Friends" I play upright and have whoever can sit in show up. I do have a nucleus of guys who I play in other bands with so we have a good song base to pick from but, as you said, you don't want to be too dependent on other people. This works out well for that. I figure out ahead of time who can make it and try to rehearse with them once or twice before so it doesn't sound thrown together. The guys who I rehearse with are the guys who I split the loot with. If anyone else drops by and sits in for a few songs, they do not get paid. If you rehearse and help carry gear, you get paid. The gig doesn't pay much but it's a fun time!

If you want the loot to yourself, you can do what one of the guys does - one man band. One guy (super talented btw) plays guitar, harmonica and sits his stool on wooden boxes that he has microphones in - stomps on them with his feet while playing. So, one guy has the drums, guitar and harmonica solos. The best part is when he breaks a string - the music doesn't stop. He stomps a little harder and wails on that harp all while reaching in his case, pulling out the correct string, changing it and back to the song without missing a beat. Like I said, he's talented ;)

Reactions: OOD

I only said that because you said that you are a homemaker and that you have a pretty face. I know that your profile says Male, but, you wouldn't be the first female to list her sex as male. As for the avatar, I've never watched "Dr. Who" nor have I ever heard of an Ood (had to depend on Wikipedia for that much information). Please except my apology, I didn't mean to upset you.

I'm not upset about it. I was just wondering why. It's not like you called me clueless. I'm a man and a homemaker at the same time.... With a pretty face.
