I used an old Fishman Pro eq for a couple of years, worked well. You can pick them up pretty cheap these days.

Unfortunately, that's kind of like saying, "I get really bad mileage when I drive my Humvee". Sad but true.

I use a Tech 21 Acoustic DI with both my Bass Max/NS Cleveland and my Azola Bug, and it works very well with both. I find that the Sansamp circuitry tends to slightly compress the transients to minimize the annoying piezo "thonk". I believe this unit is designed for acoustic guitar, but it works well for bass...both electric and upright. It has the added mid control that the Bass Driver DI does not have. FWIW, I have also used that unit with good results on upright.
