acoustic vl-810?

does anyone have any experience with these cabs? or other similarly designed ones?
i came across this one on evilbay. it seems to have a solid feature set, its the quality which concerns me.

from what i can tell from quickly browsing the first few google search results, they are no longer in production. Link Removed says they were made between 2001-2002, but contains little other info not shown in the ebay listing.

im mostly curious of the pros/cons of having the speakers angled in towards each other as the pictures show.

Any insight would be much appreciated!

hello ejackson92,

these are my cabs. no cheapo import rinky dink stuff here. they are no joke & made in USA. if you or anyone is near norwalk CA feel free to bring your amp & come by & jam on one or a few. the v load shouldn't have much if any effect on the sound but it allows them to retain the signature vintage "acoustic" look while being a 8x10. if anything it may help the cab to project a bit better. i'm sure you'll love these cabs & the craftsmanship is superb. nice hefty usa made cast frame woofers as well. i can almost guarantee that these cabs are new/never used. they have just been sitting around for years & must be seen to be truly appreciated

I wouldn't sell them, I would sell my grandmother to a passing arab trader, but those cabs? never!.:bassist:

I just wanted to resurrect this thread, as I had a first hand experience with the Acoustic VL-810 cab tonight. I did an artist showcase and the backline was an 80’s Ampeg SVT head into said Acoustic cab.

The verdict: not great.

I’m pretty familiar with SVT’s, and I currently own a ’73 Acoustic 371. This rig didn’t capture any of the good qualities I associate with either. For an 810 cab this didn’t have the tight punch you’d expect from an Ampeg, and it lacked the lows of a ported cab. I honestly think the angled in drivers did it in. It didn’t seem terribly efficient either, possibly due to phasing issues.

For all I know there could have been a technical problem with the head, but I felt under whelmed with the rig tonight. To its credit, it looked beautiful, but I’m a sucker for the Acoustic blue.

the tweeter may have needed adjustment to add to the perceived "tightness" - actually, I sold one that direction that did not have a tweeter so that may have been the issue. I don't see the silver screws used on the tweeters through the top grille in the pics
