Hi, does the action influence the sound? My Fender Jazz bass sounds a bit "muffled" compared to another J-Bass (which sounds brighter, more pronounced) and one of the differences is the action. The action on my bass is lower then on the one I compared it to.

It does, but the effect is quite small on an electric instrument. I would set up the bass to play comfortably, and if you don't like the sound try adjusting the pickup heights.
