Active or passive DI?

Hey guys,

I'm in the market for a DI, as the preamp/DI pedal I've used so far, is going up for sale.

I'm definitly no expert on DI's, but when looking around on the internet I've come across both active and passive DI's.
Could someone please explain the difference between these two types? And what are the pros and cons of both?

a active has a gain boost , the passive don't if you have a passive instrument you need that boost

Ehm, I use both - a 6-string active and a 4-string passive..

So that means I have to go... Active?

most active DI's will have a -db pad, for use with active pickups. So that would cover both basses.
